Infant Community

Posted on February 12 2016

In the last few weeks the Infant Community have been looking at 'transport' for our topic. We have talked in a group about how the children travel to school, most of them say they come in a car, a few say they walk and some come under their own steam on a scooter.

All the children have been trying out all the vehicles we have on offer in our garden. They have been using the scooters, pedalling on the tricycles, and taking turns in the cars .For our classroom display, they have chosen a vehicle to colour, a train, bus, car or aeroplane, but most of them have coloured in more than one. We have also been looking at and recognising other vehicles, fire engine, ambulance, life boat, and helicopter, and as a group they have been listening to and joining in phrases from the book 'Emergency'.
Also this week we were lucky enough  to be have  Reis Akyuz' Dad visit us and read to the group his new book 'I am Bear'. All the children loved the book, and were eager to join in with the actions. Since his visit we have had numerous requests from the children for the 'I am Bear' story to be read repeatedly. It was a huge success and the children were fortunate to be given a 'I am Bear' poster and some stickers to take home with them.
